Fun, learning, and adventure...
after school in your neighbourhood!
Camp Promise provides after school programs and special weekend planned activities designed to build relationships and expand life experiences for children ages 5-14. We focus on foundational academic, spiritual and social skills needed for life. This model is adapted with permission from UrbanPromise Toronto. All ministry staff- full time missionaries, mission interns and volunteers work together to produce a safe and loving environment for the children, youth and families that we serve.
Young Leaders are a key part of the mission of Camp Promise, where we believe in allowing teens and young adults the opportunity to serve and lead with their gifts and talents. Accordingly, we offer one year mission internships, as well as short term mission team and volunteer opportunities that include spiritual and skill required training to work with the children. The value of people over program is highlighted in all circumstances! Adult volunteers are also welcomed through an application and interview process for on site and behind the scene roles!
Please see the "Take Action" section of this page for Volunteer Application Form for internship/youth and adult volunteer positions!

Camp Promise is an after school program for the children and youth living in the neighbourhood of Bethel Community Church, in the older east end of Barrie, Ontario. Recognizing that the hours between 3:30 and 6:30pm are the most vulnerable for children and youth, especially for those who may be otherwise under-supervised in their after school time period , Camp Promise desires to provide a safe and meaningful place to come for homework help, to make some new friends, have a ton of fun with music, games, sports and other great activities, learn about God, the bible and a little more about what their purpose is in this big old world. Camp Promise is excited about spending time and building healthy relationships with those aged 5 - 14 years from elementary schools surrounding our site at 128 St. Vincent Street! Fun, learning and adventure is our focus and all are welcome to come and check things out and join in!
Camp Promise leaders are youth and adult volunteers who have been chosen through an application and interview process. Each one has obtained a Vulnerable Sector Police Check and come with a wide variety of experience in the fields of education, child and youth work, summer day camp, early childhood education, nursing and special education.
*** Saturday smaller group adventure days will be available by invitation and the opportunity to come to church on Sundays with our interns is open to children, youth and their families each week!
Mission and Vision
Our vision is to raise a generation of leaders who Love Jesus and Serve their community, with a clear identity of who they are and what their purpose is!
Our purposed mission is to reach children, youth and their families, in the community surrounding Bethel Community Church, in the older east end of Barrie, with the love of Jesus in a practical and relational way. We desire to be "the village" that helps raise the children into confident leaders who serve and help restore their community.
Young leaders are a key part of the mission of Camp Promise, where we believe in allowing teens and young adults, the opportunity to serve and lead with their gifts and talents; to be mentored and coached while actively serving, to live fully as God designed them. We desire to see ALL ages of volunteers be involved in areas of Camp Promise as they feel led to. Deepening the connection to the churches of Barrie through relationship building, adds another whole dimension of opportunity for spiritual growth for whole families. Volunteers of ALL ages are needed to allow for this to happen! There is no retirement plan for followers of Jesus Christ in the life long call to live missionally!
What We Believe
At Camp Promise, we believe that:
- Children and youth are leaders of the next generation and both deserve and require training up in the way they should go. Proverbs 22:6 " Train up a child in the way he(she) should go, and when they are old he(she) will not depart from it."
- The old African proverb: " It takes a village to raise a child" is at the heart of Camp Promise. We desire to be a strong support to families in the raising up of children and youth so they can be given the opportunity to be all that they can be.
- Jesus Christ is the one who fits perfectly in the God-sized hole within each of us. We believe what Jesus himself said in John 14:6 "Jesus answered: 'I am the way, the truth and the life. No man comes to the Father except through me.'"
- The "church" is made up of all who whole-heartedly embrace and live out their conviction to be followers of Jesus Christ: where true freedom, redemption, fellowship and community can be made available to all, as each is trained to reach out with love, mercy and grace, tell their God story and use their gifts and talents to serve others.
- Teens and Young Adults both need and deserve to have the opportunity to be mentored and coached through active service, where they discover and develop both identity and purpose.
Are you 18-25 years of age? Just finished high school, post secondary education, or are between jobs on the search for what comes next in life and would like to gain some hands-on experience working with children and youth? A one year internship with Camp Promise would be a great place for you! Come and discover who you are outside of the surroundings that have defined you. Explore and develop the gifts, talents, purposes and passions that God has designed IN you. Have the opportunity to be mentored and coached in your personal spiritual growth, while helping to design and implement a relational ministry for children and youth through after school/evening , weekend adventures, summer camp and church on Sunday.
Mission Internships are open to local, national and international applicants, and would be a year commitment starting at the end of August. Housing within walking distance of the Camp Promise site at Bethel Community Church is provided for out of country interns as that applies, and options to work part time and/or attend post secondary school here in Barrie while interning are available. As a missionary, you will be required to raise a certain portion of the costs associated with your internship. This will be explained more during the interview process, once your application has been received.
